I just tried the garlic fries for the first time...and *ohmigoddddd* they're soooo good and garlicky!!! I'm also completely addicted to their bruschetta sauce...the one in the white container, not clear. DAYUM that stuff is tasty!

Long story short....don't come near me; I've got enough garlic in me to take down a vampire at 50 yards.

    Good with everything!

not necessarily NEW - but for this time of year, the fresh raspberries in the Sacramento area stores are *outstanding*. And I noticed costing $1 to $2 LESS than packages in local supermarkets. They are huge and beautiful.

Greek Style Honey Yogurt and Greek Style Fig yogurt. Sprinkle with some toasted almond slivers. YUM!

I love the honey yogurt too. Their whole greek line is excellent. I personally don't care for the fig one; it has good flavor, but the little seeds creep me out. LOL
The honey yogurt is excellent as topping on fresh fruit or their jarred sweet black cherries.
The yogurt 'cheese' is great, too - almost as firm as soft cream cheese for bagels or other breakfast spread.

Samantha! SHH - It sells out enough as it is!

Everyone: the greek yogurt is terrible. Leave it on the shelves and I will take care of it for you. This is not the yogurt you're looking for.

Pomegranate vinegar, pomegranate marinade, lemon zest olive oil and the mango chili vinegar:

I just whomped up a big bunch of quail for my family for Mother's day with four different kinds of marinades/reductions using the above ingredients mixed with other beautiful wine/port/sherry etc (pan roasted with butter and shallots and then roasted again) - everyone is sitting around stuffed and speechless!

                  HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Although it was new to me last fall, the mediterranean style hummus is YUMMY!
    • Re: Any new discoveries lately?

      Mon, February 19, 2007 - 1:53 PM
ooo the Mediterranean hummus is so good! it's the only one I buy anymore, it's so creamy! My co-worker turned me onto the tj's naan and I've been using that to dip in it. what a great combo.

I recently flipped out over the Mandarin Orange chef sauce - it's scrumptious! It's sweet and has a kick of ginger to make it assertive, it's perfect on chicken.

The Thai yellow curry sauce is also really tasty.

I also love the Thai Red Curry sauce (though far from new). A fave dish is a bowl of brown rice with some soy and sri racha sauce splashed in there, kim chee (from other than TJs - forgive my transgression, they don't have any to my knowledge ;)

some tofu cubed up with the kim chee and tofu piled on the rice....

and Thai Red Curry sauce on top of the whole mess and then microwaved til it's all steamy.

        Oh... man is it good!

Evenus Zinfandel Port. This is a Paso Robles wine that Trader Joe's private labels (although it doesn't say Trader Joe's on it). You won't find it anywhere else and it's a heavenly wine. Now that I'm not seeing it there regularly, I think I'll buy a case if I ever see it again. And I've NEVER bought wine by the case before.

Well, I hit the jackpot tonight. And I bought 8 bottles (not quite a case). Thank god for credit cards. I've never bought that much liquor at one go, not even for my annual St. Pat's party. I'm telling you that if you like fortified wines, this wine is really great and a helluva deal (although not as cheap as when I first bought it. I think my TJ's must have mispriced it the very first time.)

I was wary of the soups, as several have been a flavor let down... But- I have now found a couple of good ones!

The Organic Lentil & the Organic Split Pea (vegan) are realy quite tasty & well balanced. They almost have that homemade-ish feel/flavor about them. Both are somewhat new. I hope that they are popular enough to stick around.

For snacking on, the new (well, it was in the "new" section) Toasted, Lightly Salted Granny Smith Apple Slices are amazing. For the first bite or two I wasn't sure about the salt, but well before the bottom of the bag I couldn't imagine the apples without. Mmmm Mmmm Good.

Not really new discoveries but "rediscovered" items I'd forgotten about:

The Mexican Red sauce is wonderful - recommended it to a friend who was seeking a hot sauce and he thanked me profusely, saying he'd been drowning himself in it.

And the praline pecan granola is dreamy!

Korma simmer sauce is quite tasty too.

I bought the creamy tomato soup in the carton a while back, and hadn't gotten around to trying it.. So when I found it in the fridge today and discovered it was still good, I heated some up, and WOW! That's some great tomato soup! Really filling.. I was pretty dang hungry, and I had a bowl of the soup and a hard boiled egg and I'm stuffed! Definitely going to pick up another couple of cartons of those next time.

Trader Joe's Bulgogi - but it has to be barbecued! (I read a review that was not so favorable about the beef and I can only imagine they did not barbecue it - mmmmmm!)

And those buttermilk garlic potato chips are just dreamy.

Also the Druid circle cookies - wow.

Just found Champagne pear viniagrette in with the refrigerated produce (it has gorgonzola in it so I guess it has to be refrigerated). Sweet Mother - it makes salads a religious experience. And I'm not really a salad eater. Or rather, I wasn't. Buy lots of it so they don't stop carrying it!

                > Buy lots of it so they don't stop carrying it!

How popular it is has very little to do with whether they keep it or not. Mostly it's a matter of whether the supplier/producer continues to make it available to them. I've seen things that I regularly bought a lot of disappear and the only explanation I get is, "we can't get it anymore, sorry."

<creamy organic tomato and roasted red pepper soup in the carton. i add whole wheat cous cous. yum! >
That's an excellent idea! I used to use packaged broth, then that got boring, and I finally tried adding a can of creamed corn as part of the water for making cous cous more patatable as a side dish, but I never thought of actual soup! Thanks! I was starting to get bored with the corn, too.

oooh yeah, they're awesome! I sautee up TJ's butternut squash cubes (steam them or nuke them first to soften) with some onions & garlic (sautee these first, then add the squash), nutmeg & cinnamon, then stir in the lentils & either diced tomatoes, fresh basil, rosemary & thyme or a just a little bit of really chunky marinara & thyme so it's a thicker texture than a very thick stew. I serve it over brown rice - I can't get enough of this dish!

Has anyone else become addicted to the ginger spread? It's in with the jams, and preserves. It's made from cane suger, and ginger root, that's it. It has the consistancy of peanut butter, and on a toasted crumpet, weel a little slice of heaven. One of our demo ladies put it with the double cream brie on the mini toast crackers. My first mate had to chase me away from the demo booth 4 times that day.

Get ready folks, my Capt. got back from the big leaders meeting in CA last week and started telling us about all the new items that will be arriving soon. All we could say was "OMG!". There are 3 new gluten free granolas which rock, and a new oat, and wheat bran swirl cereal that I'm totaly addicted to. It tastes more like a little cinimmon oatmeal cookie, and I've yet to eat them anyway but by the handful out of the box.

I just last night discovered the tomato basil hummus. Before I chose it, I thought, "well, no one raved about it on Tribe yet, but it looks interesting..." OH HOLY MOTHER! That is some amazing stuff - and its almost even good for you! Its so tasty, if I didn't stop myself, I could have eaten the whole thing at one sitting. How has this little gem flown under the radar so long? Buying a few at a time from now on!

My other super yummy discovery is the non-fat brownies in the pink box - "No pudge fudge brownies." I make mine (half a box at a time) with applesauce instead of yogurt, add an egg (you must add the egg for fluffiness) and then add a big handful of TJ's choc chips and some white choc chips to the mix and bake. Commentary from a brownie recipient, "That has got to be the best brownie I've had in my entire life." Brownie = pure happiness.
    • Re: Any new discoveries lately?

      Tue, October 23, 2007 - 6:43 AM
I can't make a large batch of No Pudge because if you eat the whole pan in one sitting, there is plenty of pudge. But if you follow the recipe on the box & nuke 2 tbs of the mix with 1 tbs yogurt for about half a minute (my microwave is high powered) you get a nice warm blast of chocolate. So it's not as incredibly tasty as the prepared box, but at least I can control myself!

Just picked up the frozen Argentinian Shrimp that they only have for 2 months of the year. Tried one bag, and the checker said, "Oh my God, these are my favorite. I buy bags and bags of these and keep them in my freezer for when I can't get 'em anymore." She said they taste like little lobsters. It WAS so good! I prefer these to shrimp now. Saute in butter and two frozen garlic cubes (also frozen section), get 'em all toasty brown, pour in a little sweet Muscato wine. Yum yum yum.

I've been enjoying the Tofu Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce that is sold in the ready to eat cold section. I feel a little guilty buying it because of the packaging (all that pretty packaging for two spring rolls?) But I've been buying it nearly every time I go to TJ's for my lunch break when at work. It's got fresh raw vegetables in it, including plenty of mint. Yummy.

There's a newish Organic cereal which tastes pretty good. Organic Morning Lite is a whole grain cereal with bran , kamut, millet , brown rice and lil corn puffs sweetened with honey that make it taste less like bark and twigs and more like a healthy cereal. There's 9 grams of fiber per serving which is good for keeping things flowing ;)

      I love the snacking granola.
For a dessert, I like to take a good dollop of the mediterranean cheese style yogurt, drizzle it with a bit of honey then crumble some of the granola over the top. Better than ice cream!

Yes. The prices at TJ's are rising and some of the packaging seems to be smaller. Due to the increased pricing for food commodities (thanks ethanol subsidies!) I have noticed that food prices have risen at TJ's over the past few months.
Tuna was 99 cents a can is now 1.39, Pasta was .79 cents went up 20 cents.
No biggie as the food is still as tasty and better priced than most other stores...

Prices have risen everywhere, not just at TJ's. They're still a better bargain than mega-grocery stores. I think the brands TJ's carries taste better than the mega-conglomerate food factories, too.

I love the instant Miso in winter...I throw in onion, bok choy and either shrimp and/or diced tofu.

the price on bread is consistantly going up. the prices on some of the frozen food go up and down depending on the week. i will always love my TJ's tho' . going into the local Lucky's store is a dismal experience and i try to stay away from there as much as i can.

In the ready made food area one of my favorites lately is the spicy lentil wrap. It's very tasty, with the dipping sauce, and healthy and filling. Compared to the other ready made lunch items it fills me up more than all the other similarly priced things I've tried. Trader Joes has many vegan options throughout the store, for which I am grateful.
