So, the other night, I saw a jar of 'satay peanut sauce' or something - it is a short widemouth jar. Any chance it is close to the TJ's peanut sauce (in a salad dressing shaped bottle) that they discontinued a few years ago? I've had some good luck with making my own out of half a jar of plain hoisin sauce, adding about an equal amount of smooth peanut butter, and a dash of ginger, lemon juice and water if needed to thin it out more.
I have extremely low tolerance of spicy hot, so I'm leary of using things labeled Thai or Indian, cuz there's usually added peppery spice in those.
I bought it, just in case. I'll post a review when I try it. Then again, I bought a jar of pesto sauce about 3 years ago, and THAT is still in my cupboard. I'm so inquisitive in the store, but boring at the stove. ;-)

Re: replacement old favorite?
Fri, July 25, 2008 - 8:51 PMI think that's been around for a while. I'm pretty sure I used to use it & it was yummy. I don't recall it being too spicy, but then for me it's the spicier the better, so my judgment may be a little skewed! -

Re: replacement old favorite?
Fri, August 8, 2008 - 9:37 AMI offered it as a dipping sauce with some grilled chicken breast, and although my husband thought it excellent, I thought it seemed a little strong, so then I made a stir fry using it along with some coconut milk, and that was perfect! I think the coconut milk mellowed it out quite a bit.
It's different than hoisin - but good.
Time to go back and get some more of TJ's frozen stir fry veggies. So easy!
